My Workshop Arrangements

All the wet felting is done in my kitchen, either on a folding table or on the floor, and as this space is also used for domestic purposes I have to be careful to contain my working areas in such a way that they do not interfere with the general running of the household. I therefore try to minimize clutter, and only have out what is needed for the felting project at the time.

The folding table is placed against the wall, with one half of it leaning against it. This is covered with clear plastic, and acts like a splash guard, while I am working on small projects. When I need a slightly larger working area, I can swivel the table top around and open it out. For large projects I use the floor space, which I cover with a piece of vinyl to protect the laminated flooring before I start working.

Kitchen Setup Setup 2

So that I can undertake projects that involve dyeing, the use of  flames and heat sources, surface treatments with all manner of paints and varnishes, which would be highly unsociable (if not dangerous) in the kitchen, Sandy has had a small workshop built for me in the garden (close to the kitchen). He has fitted it out with electricity, lighting, shelves and work bench. This is my sanctuary where I can make messes to my hearts content without worrying about cleaning up after myself! Heaven! Just outside its front door, I have a workbench where on fine days I can spill over, and use it as an additional working area.
